One of the defining characteristics of David Gorton's
work is his interest in developing collaborative relationships with the
performers he is writing for, whether they are amateurs or students,
professional soloists or ensembles. This collaborative relationship will often
give shape and definition to the completed composition, with the music tailored
to the particular characteristics and abilities of the performers.
Gorton will accept commissions from individuals and
organisations, and is particularly interested in writing music for soloists,
chamber groups, large ensembles, symphonic wind ensembles, orchestras, and
choirs. Commission fees are negotiated on a case by case basis and will take
into account the specific circumstances of the project.
It is also possible to commission a piece of music on
behalf of someone else, either as a special present or as an act of
philanthropy. Commissioners will receive full credits in the scores and
programme notes of the pieces they have commissioned, as well as being listed
in liner notes if the piece is recorded.
